Program: East Stuart Youth Initiative – Police Intervention Program

Summary: Comprehensive , community-centered program for 6-17 year olds, in collaboration with the City of Stuart Community Services Department, and Stuart Police Department.
The Stuart Police Youth Intervention Program is comprised of two components: The First Offender Program and Gang Prevention. The First Offender component is a pre-arrest program for youth who have committed misdemeanor offenses. The juvenile has the ability to keep his/her criminal record clean with voluntary participation in the program. The Gang Prevention component provides education by teaching the Phoenix Gang Curriculum to at-risk youth. This is an evidence-based curriculum and is offered at the East Stuart Youth Initiative Afterschool Program, as well as, JD Parker Elementary School.

Summary: The DOH-Martin County Preventive Dental Program provides preventative oral health care and education by a dental hygienist to children in early learning centers and in grades 2, 3, and 5. Children in participating early learning centers receive oral health care screenings and benefit from a toothbrush program. Elementary school-age children receive oral health care screenings, an application of dental sealants, and an oral hygiene care kit with instruction. Children who are experiencing urgent oral health care concerns are referred to an oral health care provider in Martin County for treatment.

Prenatal Nutrition Program provides nutrition education and support to pregnant women who have a body mass index of 30 or more at their first prenatal appointment.
PrenatalCareProgramfortheUninsured provides prenatal care, along with labor and delivery management services, to uninsured pregnant women and their newborns. The program represents a collaboration between Florida Community Health Centers, Children’s Services Council of Martin County, United Way of Martin County, Hobe Sound Community Chest, and Martin Health System.

For example, if your child qualifies for free or reduced lunch at school or Florida KidCare (Medicaid) then your child is eligible to participate in S.P.L.A.S.H. Summary: The Alternative to Out of School Suspension Program (ALTOSS) is open to Martin County middle and high school students who have been suspended from school. ALTOSS provides a safe, structured, and educational experience for students during their suspension that includes group skills building sessions provided by a licensed mental health professional, and community service projects. ALTOSS has been proven to be effective in decreasing repeat suspensions by using targeted activities to increase the student’s awareness of the importance of positive character, relationships, respect, and cooperation. For more than 15 years, the ALTOSS program has consistently reduced the number of repeat suspensions by 40%. The program, which is a collaboration with the City of Stuart, is held at the Recreation Center at E. 10th Street in Stuart.
