Summary: Communities Saving Our Babies recruits members from targeted communities with the highest black infant mortality rates to attend a series of classes to improve birth and health outcomes. Class members may be a variety of ages, teens to seniors. Each group of 8-12 people attends 4 two-hour classes covering 5 major areas: prenatal care, safe sleep, breastfeeding, domestic violence, and the benefits of father/male involvement. Graduates agree to share the information in the community, as well as recurit new members to attend the class series. An end of the year event both re-engages participants and recognizes community contributions of the graduates.

Summary: The Alternative to Out of School Suspension Program (ALTOSS) is open to Martin County middle and high school students who have been suspended from school. ALTOSS provides a safe, structured, and educational experience for students during their suspension that includes group skills building sessions provided by a licensed mental health professional, and community service projects. ALTOSS has been proven to be effective in decreasing repeat suspensions by using targeted activities to increase the student’s awareness of the importance of positive character, relationships, respect, and cooperation. For more than 15 years, the ALTOSS program has consistently reduced the number of repeat suspensions by 40%. The program, which is a collaboration with the City of Stuart, is held at the Recreation Center at E. 10th Street in Stuart.

Summary: The Tykes & Teens Little TYKES program creates a partnership between childcare center staff, an Infant Mental Health Specialist, and parents/caregivers to help shift the culture from traditional behavior modification to trauma informed interventions based on a deeper understanding of disruptive behaviors. The Infant Mental Health Specialist is embedded on site at the childcare center in order to provide direct services and ongoing support to create system change. Unique to this approach is the use of evidence based Child Parent Psychotherapy (CPP) on site in the centers, along with traditional Infant Mental Health Consultation. This program is done in collaboration with the Early Learning Coalition, Healthy Families and Helping People Succeed.
